The plague…and a very social weekend

1 July , 2019

Remember last week I told you I was feeling crap? Well, in the end I gave up and went to see the doctor. I have/had stupid swine flu! The doctor got a “little bit” excited and gave me three sorts of antibiotics plus he still wanted to give me a booster shot AB, but I said he needed to calm down now.

I can breathe again, which is no small relief, but still feel a bit under the weather. All my ABs are finished now, so hopefully they are still working their way through my system.

Of course these things always happen when you’ve made loads of plans that you really don’t want to cancel, so we didn’t.

Saturday morning saw us off to Pretoria to celebrate our little nephew Justin’s 9th birthday with him. What a great indoor venue, in winter, and Pretoria in general is just so much hotter than Johannesburg. We rocked up in jackets, and layered down to T-shirts by the time we left.

Nicola wanted to wear shorts and I didn’t let her, so I got a bit of a you-did-this-to-me look when it got really hot.

My parents.

It’s a brave new world for my dad from this week. He retired on Friday, from the only employer he’s had in 43 years. I’m sure it will be a massive adjustment for him, and he is enthusiastically looking for something to keep himself busy with.

My mom has “a few” ideas with regards to home improvements, but I think he’s hoping for something else to come along.

Spiggy and me…I look about as tired as I felt here. For some unknown reason I woke up at 3am and couldn’t go back to sleep. That’s crazy early, even for me.

Sunday we were invited to visit with Marcia and Cat and families, at Marcia’s house. Thank you Marcia, for organising – we really did have the best time!

It’s been ages since I saw anyone face to face. My own fault. I missed you guys. xxx

Look at how big all our babies got! They all got on like a house on fire, and we hardly saw them really. They were all over the property playing.

Our two Harry Potter fans…

Beautiful sunset we got to see on the way home. Excuse my dirty car windows. It was a fair bit more stunning than this picture might leave you to believe.

Thank you for a fabulous get together! This was exactly what I needed.

  1. Ek was ‘n bietjie lank laas hier. Geluk met al die nuwe verwikjelinge. So bly vir julle!

  2. The dreaded swine flu! It’s clearly doing the rounds. Hope you are feeling better very quickly and no one was infected by you!

Congratulations to your dad on his retirement! It would definitely be a huge adjustment! 43 years is before we were born so a life time

    • Thank you! I don’t think I was contagious anymore. I would have definitely kept myself under quarantine if I was. 43 years really is a lifetime. Longest I’ve managed in one spot was 7, and it felt like I broke a really big mirror haha.

  3. I hope you are feeling better. Love te get together!

    • Feeling MUCH better this week, thank you! A get together sounds like a grand plan – maybe when it’s a tiny bit hotter. Today I’m freezing my dinges off! And very much yearn to hibernate, hahaha!

  4. Ah ha – I thought I recognised you and your family’s faces in Marcia’s Instagram post 🙂 Glad that you’re better!

    • Thank you! I’ve been feeling horrid, so it’s a big relief. Hopefully I’ve had my quota of sick now for the entire winter – it will almost make it worth it to have it out of the way. I actually feel so guilty. The blood bank keeps phoning me to come and donate, but I really am in no state to do that. And now I have to wait for the antibiotics to make their way out my system too, so at least another week or so.

  5. It was lovely to have you all over! I’m glad we made it happen 🙂

    And, wow, 43 years?

A friend’s dad also worked where your dad worked (I think?) and he also retired recently but is already bored after a few months 😮

    • My dad’s been keeping himself busy, but I’m sure the boredom could kick in very quickly if you’re not careful!

Say something...come on! You know you want to?
