It’s the season to chase your own tail!

12 December , 2011

201110043471ย I have been a terrible bloggy buddy for the last month or so…and it doesn’t look like I’m going to catch up with my commenting in the next week or so either, sorry to say. You’ll just have to forgive me in the new year. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This past weekend was in a word, CRAZY! Usually I try not to plan more than one out-event for Nicola and I over a weekend so that we get some downtime too and a bit of rest (not to mention laundry!). Sometimes it just kind of creeps up on you though, and you can’t do anything about it.

We had a family party planned for Saturday afternoon in honour of my aunt and uncle both turning 60, which we had already RSVP-ed for. Then the secret department I work for decided to move their seceret year end braai to Saturday as well because it suited most of the secret people, and I couldn’t exactly bail on that either since I was the one organising it (secretly)! So I told the one bunch we’d be leaving early, and told the others that we might be late and organised us lifts to and from each event so thatย I could have a drink or two if I felt like it without worrying about driving.

It all went down without a hitch, except that Nicola wasn’t too impressed with my colleague who came to pick us up on Saturday morning (he has a car seat too). She bawled all the way from our house to his. My daughter really does not like strangers. ๐Ÿ˜† But once we got there she found their toy room, swing and trampoline and she was happy as the day is long.

Sunday we had a little family lunch at my parents’ house for my brother and his girlfriend since they’ll be in Canada for his birthday and Christmas. They both really liked their handmade gifts, so I was thrilled. Really, I am getting a huge kick out of doing it this way. I’ll show you later what I made. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Everywhere I went I ate TOO MUCH! ๐Ÿ˜† And it’s not even Christmas yet!

Hope you all had a good weekend, and that you managed not to get trampled in the malls. (I have a few things left to put finishing touches on and then gift wrap and I am feeling very pleased with myself about the whole situation…some might even say smug). ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. You deserve to feel smug with your handmade goodness. I feel very loved when someone makes me something (it’s that acts of service thing).

  2. I think the difference for me in the handmade gifts this year is all the planning that went into it. Usually I’m running around like a lunatic trying to get the “perfect gift” with the imperfect budget at the last minute and I end up sometimes hitting and sometimes missing.

This year I had to sit and plan everything yonks in advance (some of the material I bought in September already!) and then make each thing specially for a particular person, which took HOURS!

But when they open it and they love it, then it just makes it all worthwhile. ๐Ÿ˜€

And if they don’t love it, that’s also okay – I put a lot of heart into every single thing…and that’s really what I think a gift should be about.

  3. You need to be posting pics of your handmade gifts. Please?
I am trying my utmost to slow down. Am declining invites left, right and centre. I really just need to rest because I am exhausted. And despite the fact that I’m not socialising I’m still eating like a PIG!

  4. I can’t wait to see everything you’ve made!

  5. Julia, will do – as soon as they’ve opened them. I can’t do it before because a few of them read here.

Angel, hehehe I’m dying to show you guys!

Say something...come on! You know you want to?
