2010 : Bring it on!

31 December , 2009

It’s that time of the year again where we have a look at the year that’s past and try and make a few plans for the year to come.

If I had to say what the most memorable thing about 2009 was for me obviously I would have to go with being pregnant. I hit just about none of the resolutions I set out to hit at the beginning of the year but this year was one hell of an adventure none the less!

The biggest lesson I learnt is that a plan, no matter how good or well thought out, is only a starting point. This past year has involved a lot of rolling with the punches and laughing in the face of adversity for me. I’ve seen and heard a lot of people whine about what a crap year it’s been…for me it’s been magical and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. That said, I couldn’t have done it without my people – 2009 will always stand out for me as a year where my family and friends carried me through some pretty dark and scary places. So thank you from the bottom of my heart! 😀

Honestly, I don’t know what 2010 will bring for me. It’s hard to pick resolutions because my priorities are shifting and changing on a day-to-day basis at the moment.

For the next year things I’d like to keep in mind throughout are:

  • Don’t sweat the little things, it’s not worth it.
  • Find the joy in of every situation.
  • We’re always busy making memories – might as well make them great ones!
  • Ask and accept help when I need it, give it when you see the need and when you can.
  • Trust that everything will turn out exactly as it should (even if it’s not exactly what you planned).
  • Trust your gut feeling – always.

I’m pretty damn excited about 2010 really. This year will be an adventure for me like no other before and I can’t wait! 😀

Nicola and I will be taking our first New Year’s Eve easy at home. If you’re going big then I hope you enjoy it too, and please be careful on the roads because there are a lot of drunk and reckless people on them today – don’t be a statistic! 😉

  1. We’re also taking it easy at home this year. Get the kids to bed early, relax and enjoy the summer evening atmosphere and not worry about getting pregnant if things go that route… 😉

  2. P.S – Happy New Year!!

  3. Hope you get to sleep the new year in 🙂
You’ve had a big year this year… I’m sure next year will be a good one for you

  4. Hope it’s your best year yet x

  5. You are the most relaxed new mom I have EVER seen. All the best to you two girls!

  6. May 2010 bring only joy to you and Nicola! 🙂

  7. Very nice way to look at the new year. Refreshing really

  8. MeeA, 😆 well as long as you’re not worried. Hehehe…I actually really enjoyed my quiet night in new years. I might make a habit of it. Happy New Year to you too!

Jenty, No ways! I firmly believe it’s bad luck to sleep through a New Year’s. I’d wake up even if it was just for the midnight count down. This year Nicola stayed up too, and then promptly passed out again just after – and bless her, slept till after 08:00 so I could sleep in too. :-)Hope your new years was a good one and that the year ahead will be even better.

Girl, same to you my friend!

Wenchy, really? 😐 I don’t feel like the most relaxed new mom ever, so thanks. Best wishes for you and your family too!

Sonkind, thank you! 😀 I hope that 2010 will treat you fabulously too.

Wordsinorangeblazes (we are going to HAVE to get you a shorter nic by the way), thanks Petunia. It’s different going into a new year with no resolutions – I usually go pretty big on them, almost feels…naked. 😉

  9. Happy New Year babe. It’s going to be a big one for both of us!

  10. acidicice, happy new year to you too! 😀 Yip, a very big year indeed.

  11. You put it very well — a plan simply is a starting point.

I’m a fan of getting experiences under my belt (Hallmark moments and all), and it sounds like you got some great experiences under your belt this past year between the baby thing and the job thing. Way to go!

  12. trust your gut feeling…. wow… that is sooo true and yet we forget about this one!

  13. JD, haha thanks. Yes 2009 has been packed full of all kinds of experiences. 😉 I think the “plan is just a starting point” thing becomes easier to accept when you realise that there are just sooo many things you have little to no control over.

Girl van die Suburbs, that particular one has kicked my ass on numerous occasions. Maybe this will be the year where I finally stop bumping my head against the same wall heh? 😛

  14. I had quite a good 2009 myself!

  15. Angel, yes you did! 😉 And I think 2010 is going to be pretty awesome for you too.

Say something...come on! You know you want to?
