Road rage no more15 January , 2009
Road rage: is anger or violent behaviour caused by someone else’s bad driving or the stress of being in heavy traffic. (defined here)
I used to be very in touch with my road rage. I usually drive alone, and on the odd occasion when I do have passengers in the car they always arrive safely where they’re meant to go, even though sometimes a little bit bewildered. But I’ve been working on it and apparently it’s under control now.
How do I know this? Well, today I was merrily making my way home in some of the finest bumper-to-bumper Joburg peak hour traffic known to mankind when this hooligan swerved in front of me…and then flipped me the bird?! In the past this kind of behaviour would have had me steaming out the ears and hanging halfway out my window giving him a piece of my mind (I project well, he’d feel like I was yelling at him from just above his left temple if I wanted to). But today when he did this I heard a little voice in my head, Anthony Robins’ Personal Power voice to be precise, saying : “That’s very interesting, I wonder what would make him do that.” I just had to laugh.
Here’s a picture of this bizarre bird-flipping creature and his steed. On behalf on the entire Gauteng province I would like to apologise for his behaviour if you came across him in a different part of the country – I doubt he could have been much more behaved on holiday than he was in traffic today.
