Swanning about at Silverstar Casino
23 October , 2008My friend Jacky got invited to the launch of a new restaurant called “Steak” at Silverstar Casino, and decided to take me as her +1. It’s all old hat to her now since she’s part of the media and what not but it was my first opening like this.
It’s a very beautiful restaurant and you can see that they put a lot of effort into every little detail. Definitely a place you could go for special occasions. The food was pretty good too. We didn’t do a proper main meal but instead an army of well trained waiters pranced about with bite size samples of various dishes for us to try.
Lots of local celeb-like people too. Now I think I may have mentioned that I am not a fan of Afrikaans music (or most of it anyhoo), so I felt that I was quite well behaved since I landed up sitting within spitting distance of Kurt Darren and I didn’t even spit! 😉 We shared a table with a model/presenter originally from Zimbabwe and her friend from Florida. Surprisingly down to earth people and fun to chat to.
The organisers also gave us each a lovely goody-bag, mine was a little red handbag with some Tommy Girl perfume and other pampering stuff. Jacky got something similar in blue but I forget the name now.
I had fun, ate like a king and got to take a present home – stick on a red hat and it could have been like Christmas. However, the next morning I woke up feeling like death warmed over. It seems I’ve managed to pick up a summer flu somewhere. Meh…I feel like crap. 😦
A newsgroup buddy suggested I should peel and grate an entire pineapple and eat it for a sore throat, so I sent a driver out to go pick one up for me. Grating sounded like hard work to me while all I wanted to is fall down and sleep, so I chased it through the smoothy maker with some honey and a bit of water. I should have gotten a smaller pineapple…1,5 liters of pineapple juice later I conked out at 18:30 and slept through to this morning 05:30.
My throat is all better – the pineapple thing works like a charm. Now has anyone got any advice for sore ears, cause that’s the only thing still hurting?
Sounds like a fun night out 🙂 And I must try to remember that pineapple remedy!
Sounds like a very fun one indeed – and goodie bags too, nice! 🙂
Will definitely remember that pineapple remedy, throat is so-so today but my sinuses and head are not too great.
Feel better soon hun!
phillygirl, it really was. 😀 I was actually thinking about you and the reviews you always do when I saw the place.
roxilla, I live on eucalyptus oil at the moment. It keeps your sinusses open all day long if you drop a few drops into your bath water in the morning. Hope you feel better soon too!
your evening sounds like a blast, i think its cool to get to attend something that you wouldn’t normally be able to go to!
and goodie bags are always a bonus…
😀
angel, I think you’re right. It was a lot of fun, because it’s not something that I would usually attend – but I don’t think I’d enjoy it as much if I had to do it on a regular basis. I’m not really subtle enough for all the smoozing that goes on at these events.
