Saturday – Mienke’s Party21 January , 2013
If you’re thinking that we’ve had a pretty action packed weekend, you’re 100% right.
Saturday we went to my cousin’s daughter’s birthday party in Pretoria. Wow, they have such a gorgeous house – seriously, I’m not even blowing smoke up anyone’s …well, you know.
It’s magnificent what they’ve done with the place – all the little touches.
My cousin Lindi and my grandmother…
Nicola meets the hamster, Strepies. She did NOT want to leave him alone for one second! (She called him a tol-ster for some reason instead of a hamster), but eventually someone did me the solid of moving the cage and I could convince her that he was sleeping and had to be left alone.
Everyone was instructed in no uncertain terms to blow kisses and say goodbye properly to Strepies before we left of course…I think we might be getting into that phase where a pet might be a good idea?
Mienke’s cake – horses! (Or according to Nicola, a petting zoo)
Cutest doggy, Impi – he was stalking me all day to throw his fetch-ball for him.
Birthday girl, Mienke and her mommy Elizna…
Nicola and Oupa, enjoying some popcorn…
Making cupcakes with our my cousin’s daughter Gizelle…Nicola doesn’t actually eat baked goods, but she loves cake batter and she’s happy to help make it anyway.
Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce!
All the little girls discovered Mienke’s room and her stash of toys – we couldn’t get them out of there!
Lindi, performing from the top of the chest of drawers! She knows very little in the way of song lyrics, and any missing words are just substituted with “something”, so at one point we got a very passionate rendition of “Hey Jude! Something-something! Take a sad song and make it better” and then later old macdonald had some wine on his farm, but she became stumped when we got to the sound effects bit of that song. Mwahaha! Everyone was greatly entertained though, and the one little person who was having a meltdown completely forgot about her drama in the face of such brilliant entertainment.
Sometimes you just need two glasses? And a tiny chair…
The birthday girl seemed to have a great time, and we all enjoyed being able to celebrate her big day with her.
