Award & 10 things meme
13 September , 2009Looky-looky what I got!:-D Thank you to both Laura and Rox for picking me.
So, 10 things you may or may not know about me: (damn this is kind of hard – I can never remember what I’ve already told you!)
- I’m a very laid back sort of person, but when I start asking you pointed questions to clarify an issue I’m probably going to jump down your throat about something and I just want to make sure I have the facts straight first. It goes with a certain look too – no one is ever surprised to find out I’m p-ed off (pays to advertise?) but it does take quite a bit to get me there.
- I “collect” interesting looking rocks – sort of. I used to (many moons ago) collect big ones because I wanted to build a water feature with them, but I never got round to it. Now I pick up little pebble sized ones whenever one catches my eye – usually when I’m on vacation and keep them on my bookshelf in a little box.
- I have never been to the Kruger National Park, ever. I don’t actually think I’ll ever go either. I’ve seen all of the big 5 in other places and driving from one camp to the next is not my idea of a holiday. When I’m on vacation I like to be in one spot and see whatever is interesting around that location without spending my day in the car.
- If I had to name the top 5 critters that I am afraid of I would say (in order of afraid-ness): spiders (in this I include most things with 8 legs, like scorpions and ticks too), crocodiles, christmas-beetles, snakes, leeches. I know that the order makes no sense to anyone but me.
- I have never been accused of being a slave to fashion, but I have a secret weakness for impractical shoes…some of which I hardly ever wear, but I HAVE to have them for some reason.
- I have no sense of direction. Nada, nothing, zip, niks! Thank goodness for GPS, right? If I’m going to be travelling a road I haven’t travelled before I always put extra petrol in my car for in case I get lost and I have to try and find my way back somehow. If that happens to involve driving through a dodgy area the last thing I want to be doing is stopping for fuel.
- I don’t dwell on negative things. I might obsess about it for a tiny bit when I just become aware of it, but at some point I always ask myself whether it’s helping me at all to think about it and if the answer is no then I just let it go. No point in worrying about things that are out of your control – that’s the secret of living in peace with your stomach ulcer I think.
- I enjoy spending time with other people, but I am perfectly happy being by myself too. Sometimes I actually just don’t feel like talking to anyone and I drop off the radar for a bit to just be.
- I think it’s very revealing about what kind of person you are when you: a) nasty to waiters just because they are waiters; b) you make jokes about people with disabilities or people who you think in any way are inferior to yourself and c) when you cancel appointments because something better/else has come up after you’ve already committed to going.
- I have no particular desire to “fix” people. Everyone has some awesome bits and some broken bits to them, and I’d rather spend whatever time I have with them focusing on the things I do like than the things I don’t. Also, I assume anyone will at any given point in their life make the best decisions that they see available to them. No one is inherently out to get other people (maybe this is naive, but that’s what I prefer to believe) – so if I do get crossed or done-in I try not to take it personally and assume that the person doing it probably considered it the lesser of two evils at the time. I used to be very big on revenge but now I just let karma sort those things out for me and focus on the good stuff instead.
Well…that was quite a mouth full. Hahaha, guess I had a bit to say after all?
I know this one has been doing the rounds and most of the people I want to tag have already been tagged but I’m going to do it anyway – feel free to ignore me if you’ve already done it.

I was 21 years old when I first went to Kruger – it was love at first site! You HAVE to go!

DT,
don’t beat yourself up about it – it’s just life, getting in the way of blogging. Could be worse, could be the other way around right?
Great post, I am in the Kruger Park often and see the big 5 and it’s really one of the great “life changers”. It can be a relaxing holiday away from all the technology and busy day life we all experience. I guess for me that is a holiday
Hi Dave, thanks for the comment. It’s not those bits that i mind…it’s the driving around all day long that doesn’t appeal to me at all.
