Is there method in the madness?

3 July , 2009

Yesterday I made a little trip to Edenvale to go pick up some Bodythrill goodies from ExMi. The N1 North is NOT my favourite highway at the moment (or ever). Usually it has really crap traffic and with all the road works being done on it for the 2010 World Cup it’s even more of a nightmare than before.

While driving along merrily on a piece of this highway recently worked on I was silently cursing (okay maybe not that silently) the idiots who still haven’t sorted out proper lane markings when I noticed something peculiar in my rear view mirror.

It seems that by some marvel of modern road “technology” our department of transport and roads and what-not has managed to find a way to make drivers observe more carefully their mirrors (I think they must be sticking it to the people who only bother with mirrors for the driving test and then thereafter use it for make up and shaving purposes only).

You see the lane markings, although very faintly visible when you look straight ahead (almost as if someone had recently changed their mind about where they should be and tarred over them) are BRILLIANTLY visible in you mirror looking back.

Amazing! What will they think of next?

Now you don't

 Now you see me

  1. I don’t like the highway – period

  2. I like the fact that you managed to take two photographs while driving. You are a true Joburger. :-)

  3. Um how safe is it to be taking pics AND driving :-p

  4. It’s like 20/20 hindsight.

  5. Wechy, aaaw that’s too bad…some of them are pretty good, and fun for road trips. ;-)

Don’t Believe, well, there’s really no other place than from the road that I could show this to you.

Laura, it’s not like I have to fit a lens and focus on anything specific. It’s literally one button I had to press so I think it’s about as dangerous as changing the song on the radio. That’s my story and I’m sticking too it! ;-)

JD, you know…I didn’t think about it that way, but that is exactly right! :-D

  6. :) It’s not new technology, its only the sun that shined from the front in your eyes :)

  7. Izak, you may be right. I drove along that rode again last night and the lines were fine. (I still think they should get an all weather kind of line in that case). ;-)

  8. Its incredible! And they’re perfectly visible at night too.

  9. Angel, absolutely. There MUST be a better way to do this?
