Black Russian

Black Russian

Theoretically, you’re supposed to make this with:

  • 2 parts Vodka
  • 1 part Kalhua
  • 5 ice cubes
  • top up with Cola

We went out for a few birthday drinks with Rocky yesterday after work. The Keg didn’t know how to make this, and I kind of forgot about the Cola bit so ended up having a different kind of Russian altogether. It was still nice, after three biggish sips it even started tasting sweet.

Lumo wanted a White Russian where she reckoned you have to add Amarula and top up with milk. There was no more space in the glass to top up with anything so they brought her a separate glass of milk!

In general yesterday was such a weird day. I woke up really tired because I decided to watch two movies the night before. I was only going to watch one, but it freaked me out so much that I had to watch an animated one after that to balance it out and get to sleep.

While I was driving to work a SPIDER crawled over my car door ON THE INSIDE! Luckily I was not driving very fast because I might have rolled the car. Actually I was more or less parked in peak hour madness on CR Swart Drive so I could go mad with no danger to the other people on the road at least.

Most of my day yesterday was spent trying to get Truffle booked for flights and accommodation to go to the Durban July. This would have been a simple thing to do if he could actually make up his mind about what he wanted. I lost my temper with his regular travel agent because she was snippy with me on the phone the first time I called. So I found him another one who after about 7 different calls (because he couldn’t make up his damn mind!) managed to do everything he wanted for less than he paid to do it last year. If you’re looking for a friendly, efficient and very patient travel agent you could try Sandra at Thompson’s Travel on 011) 770-7677 anytime. ;-)

After work we went for drinks with Rocky, and I must say it’s nice to see her out and about – she really relaxes quite a bit away from work. I almost fell over when she asked me to take photos of her – this is the same woman who usually freaks out and does a whole tuck and roll manouvre if I even open the camera in the office. I managed to get a few nice ones of her and her cousin, but I’ll edit them first before I give them to her.

So that’s my yesterday in a nutshell…Hope you have a kick-ass Wednesday and that the rest of the week flies by for you.

Ps! Beware the Black Russians, they kick like bloody donkeys! ;-)

  1. Black Russian = YUM, but ONLY when it has five ice cubes…any more or less it is ruined.

  2. I fully agree, and under no circumstances should it be replaced with crushed ice either. :-)

  3. Mmm, must try one of these, soonish!

  4. Absolutely Miss P, you must try it! What I like about it is that it’s not so fruity and sweet as the other ones.

  5. hehe Louisa I had to giggle at how you had to watch another movie after the first one freaked you out! I do that so many times and end up going to sleep at ridiculous hours! Why do we do these things to ourselves? ;-)

  6. Sheesh DT, I’m glad to hear it’s not just me. Look, in general I just stay away from stuff that I know will upset me, but I had borrowed the entire collection of my buddy (who I conveniently forgot has a passion for scary shit).

I’m silly like that, I can’t watch it because I get so totally involved in whatever I watch – and it’s not guaranteed that I will identify with the victim of the scary movie either. It’s just best for everyone if I stick to sci-fi, action and comedy.

  7. Spiders are a clever enemy. They have spider sense, a bunch of beady little eyes and all those legs. What’s worse is they know just how to taunt.

  8. Hmmm. Related to your other post. Makes me think of some wise guy who said he always keep a bottle of whisky handy in case he sees a snake – which he also keeps handy. Horrible things. Especially rain spiders.

  9. J.D., you would have to look long and hard to find someone who likes spiders less than I do. :-|

Miss P, we had one of those in here the other day. Had to call my dad out of a meeting to come and sort it out – none of us would go near it!
