The mother of all invention
6 January , 2009So, I’m a bit embarrassed cause DominiQUE still hasn’t managed to sort out our aircon – and appears to be screening his calls (very annoying).
In the meantime is a bloody hot summer in Johannesburg, and the heat is killing us here at work. You can almost see the heads drooping as the day gets hotter and hotter.
Necessity, as they say, is the mother of all invention. And what we need is some cold air! So Simma came up with a brilliant plan to help us out till we manage to find someone to come fix ours or until the someone we have already found (that would now be my DominiQUE) gets round to doing it.
This is our new aircon. I will admit that it’s not the best design in the world, or the most economic or environmentally friendly – but it works.
It wasn’t long after we commissioned this baby that we started thinking there might be a better way to utilise this space…
And when that worked pretty well, we just sort of went to town on it.
It brings relief in many ways to our hot summer days. I think I might be a little sad to see it go when we have a normal aircon again…

Brilliant! Haha
What a totally brilliant idea
Hope the real one gets fixed though – its been unbearably hot!
Chris, that’s what I said.
Clever girl that Simma.
Laurakim, thanks – me too. Keep your fingers crossed that we manage to sort it out quickly.
HA HA HA HA
outstanding.
I must try it at home (particularly with the Millers!)
Whahahaha great invention!
I love it when a plan comes together!
Awesome idea!
LOL Sometimes the old stuff works the best.
Being up in GP myself, I know what you mean by the heat. I’m wondering if I will ever adjust to it again.
Don’t believe, it was a good plan – but with the Millers it just got bumped up to a great plan!
Wipneus! it’s so simple, I can’t believe we didn’t think of it sooner – and to think how hot and bothered we were over December when we could have had this every day.
J.D., me too!
Rox, are you going to try it out? I’m sure it should work just fine with wine too.
Katt, I just read about your return to up-here. Welcome back!
I think it takes about 6 months to adjust, and by then it will be winter again. Just hang in there Katt…
Like buying an office fridge for those nice MGD’s….
Da Mario, believe me – that is also on our shopping list for this year!
That’s hilarious and brilliant and typical
ah. it looks bucking frilliant! must do that at work tomorrow (no aircon for me either. not broken, just isn’t one).
It really works Angel, so let me know how you find it.
