Questions
10 December , 2008‘Kay, so J.D has this idea of 4 questions you should ask yourself at the end of each day – and I’ve decided to give it a whirl.
What did I learn?
Well, I was driving around with my new special friend (who still doesn’t have a blog nick name, but I’m working on it) and he had a moment or two of road rage towards a taxi. I think I now know how my passengers (when I have them) must feel at times when I wig out – it’s kind of scary from the front left seat. I am going to make an extra effort not to get that upset with idiots on the road again. I haven’t really had any major episodes in ages – except for the one newspaper dude that I caught spying in my car through the window, but still I’m going to make extra effort even if that entails not wanting to run him over whenever I see him standing there looking all smug and target-like.
What did I improve?
Mmm, I’ve introduced the company I work at now to DominiQUE’s company for aircon maintenance and repairs and everyone is really impressed with them. Not sure if I can take the credit for that one though, since I didn’t actually fix the aircons myself. (Also the accounts one is still busted). But I think the Estimating Office and the company pub’s atmosphere has been greatly improved through my contacts at least?
What did I enjoy?
Since we last spoke, I enjoyed a really nice ladies night with some budds at Kai Thai, even though they didn’t have the wine we usually have there the conversation was still good and I had a blast. I enjoyed ripping our IT-guy off about Vista, a lot, since he’s an avid supporter as much as I am an avid opponent of it and the only machine in our office with the blasted crap on keeps breaking and deleting it’s own drivers and what not. I really enjoyed coming up with entertaining nick names for both our new colleague (from the museum) : Gertruida -because she goes out for lunch each day and comes back wearing a jersey – Afrikaans word for jersey is trui, and our new bank manager (Stupid Idiot – only cause it rhymes perfectly with his real name – not because he is one…he’s actually a lot better than the previous one), which Simma liked so much she almost accidentally asked for him by the other name when she phoned there today (you can tell how popular bank managers are in general in our office, can’t you?)…she had to put the phone down for a giggle first. I also really enjoyed the heart to heart chat I had with new special friend in the car this afternoon. He shares EVERYTHING with me… I like.
What kind act did I do?
New special friend told me this morning that he needed to find a place to stay, and I also happened to know about Pieter & Christel who has a place to rent out – and so I got them all together and we’ve got his living arrangements all sorted out in less than a day. I was very happy that I could help out with that, because he needs a place pronto – he’s very stressed where he lives now, I know them well and they are also very stressed with him there – so hopefully a bit of distance will help them all get along a bit better in future.
How am I doing J.D.? Is this what you had in mind or am I doing it wrong?

What a cool idea!!
Kinda puts things in perspective a bit? I may just give it go!!
Very cool idea, also going to try and give it a bash.
Love it.
When does a New special Friend become just a Special Friend?
You did great … Above and beyond!
It’s about helping the cream rise to he top each day and letting the suck nuggets fall to the bottom.
What happens is you train your brain to find the hallmark moments each day. You’re the director and you get a better answer to “what are you pointing your camera at?”
laurakim, glad you liked it – go ahead, try it…it really does add a bit of perspective to the day.
Rox, sheesh! It’s harder than it looks. One day is okay, but if I had to do it today it wouldn’t be nearly as easy. Maybe that’s the point right?
Rebecca, well…if he makes it to the end of next week without running off like a scared little rabbit he’s getting his own name for sure!
J.D., yay! I get the nod. I understand why this would be a good idea at the end of each day, it sure makes you look at your day and your attitude in a whole different light. But I also see after today (which was hellish) that it’s not going to be a walk in the park. This is definitely something you’d have to practice for a while till it really takes. Thanks for the cool advice.
[...] was very inspired by a cool daily ’summary’ that I saw over at Louisa today, which basically is a great way to reflect on the day and get into a good positive and [...]
holy mackerel… i don’t think i could do one of those every day!
I know what you mean Angel, it’s a tough habit to cultivate…
