Getting on with it…

Tiggs

First off let me start by saying Happy Birthday to Pieter C. Hope you have the best day ever buddy, and how fortunate that the joyous occasion falls on a Friday, hope the birthday drink is not too vicious. ;-)

Mmm, now let me see what other news I have for you before we all head off into this weekend. Well, I am still unemployed – although I do have a few interviews set up for next week…so wish me luck. Especially wish me luck that I don’t get sucked into anything dodgy, because the one particular company sounds so keen to meet me that it actually makes me feel a little bit nervous. Apparently directors are flying out from the UK for the interviews (Doesn’t that sound a bit excessive to you? Have they never heard of video/telephone conferencing?).

As is no doubt the case with most people, interviews make me very nervous. The difference is that when I get nervous I get a bit…not aggressive exactly…but something pretty similar. Hehehe…I’ll never forget my very first interview ever. The General Manager of the company waffled on a bit (as they do), and then after much mmm-ing and haaa-ing and obscure questions asked, decided to go with, “If you get the job, when can you start?”. My answer: “What do you mean IF I get the job?! I thought I was starting today?!”. He just laughed and asked the supervisor to show me where my office was – guess he liked that answer?

The people who have been reading regularly know that I’ve had some back pain (I’d rate it as severe) over the last two weeks, and that I’ve been seeing a physio down here to sort it out for me. The guy is brilliant really. I did warn him on the first day though that my back sometimes starts fighting back when pushed and prodded to much (it’s my back after all – what did you expect?), and yesterday we got to that stage of the treatment. So I got one day off from treatment and then I have to go back again, and maybe once more next week for it to be sorted out. Hey! At least I can walk again.

The actual cause of all the drama is an old injury that I got from falling down two flights of stairs yonks ago (No, I was not pushed…and No, I was not auditioning to be a stunt double either), and now from time to time I get a slipped disk thingy. Well really, this is only the second time that it’s ever happened to me – so I’m quite lucky that it’s not more chronic. In preparation for the next treatment I have been trying to keep my back relaxed…everything I own smells vaguely of either Deep Heat, Voltaren Gel or Arnica Massage Oil at the moment. Pffft…I don’t care. As long as it helps – that’s all I’m interested in.

I’ve also taken Rox’s advice and spent some time doing things that make me happy. This time round it was having some “me-time”. I know what you’re thinking. I just moved down here and I am not yet working and I also don’t know that many people down here – I have nothing but me-time?! Well, this was different. It was just me-time with no other purpose. So no me-time while job hunting online, no me-time while answering family and friends’ e-mails about how I’m doing down here or trying to keep up with my blog reading and news groups…just me-time while doing nothing but relaxing and clearing my mind. Just what I needed. :-)

What have you got planned for the coming weekend? If all goes according to plan I’ll manage to see my cousin Natasha who lives close by and maybe explore one or two places close by that I haven’t seen yet. If there’s anything decent showing I might do a Sunday movie night again like last week – I like that, and it reminds me of home where our family used to always watch the Sunday 20:00 movie together.

I am still having fun…but I miss everyone in JHB a lot!

  1. In case you haven’t been told recently, I still think you were brave and strong to make the move to C.T. Good on yer!

  2. :-) Aaaw thanks Don’t believe…

  3. Louisa, if I may ask, what kind of job are you looking for?

  4. sonkind: The work that I have the most experience in is procurement, supplier negotiations and inventory forecasting, but I have done work of general admin nature, some accounts clerking and data capturing too.

I’m not really that picky about what kind of job because I learn quickly and I like a challenge…but I also have to be realistic that there are still my bills to be paid at the end of the month so I’ll probably have to stick to what I know or try something new with a fairly decent starting salary. ;-)

  5. oh i hope the interviews pan out to something legitimate and positive! LOL
as for the back… i wish you all the luck in the world to get it sorted out as soon as possible.
and doing things that make you feel good- wow- it sounds like a plan to me!
